Before you arrive
You don't need to do any prep, but this might enhance your trip.
- (Re-)read Scott Pilgrim. I'd go with the black and white originals. It's set in Toronto so you might spot some locations while you're here. There's also the movie, of course.
- All the Canada Heritage Minutes are up on YouTube. The older ones are delightfully cheesy. I particularly like the self-effacement about how Canada got its name from a misunderstanding, and how John Nicollet can't tell a lake from an ocean.
- The citizenship study guide has a good overview of Canada's history.
- Check the Toronto events calendar for any free festivals/street fairs that overlap with your trip.
- If you're going canoeing, watch Path of the Paddle (solo basic) and/or doubles basic. A man in jorts with horrific sunburn will tell you everything you need to know.
